The terrorist attacked happened in the city centre close to Streatham ice rink, police were called to the scene at around 5pm, two people were left injured and one man has been shot dead. The prime minster Boris Johnson has commented on the incident condemning the attacker and praising the police, the security services reacted instantly but have not commented on the incident. The terrorist threat level to the UK is currently substantial meaning that an attack is likely to happen, Sir Andrew Parker, head of MI5 has not released a statement but did previously in the London Bridge attack about the tireless efforts to prevent terrorism in the UK. The incident though does raise concerns over how well the security operations are working together to combat terrorism.
The university clubs were in constant communication with each other before the attack happened, coaches had been organised, players were already on route to the game.
Both Ice hockey teams were disappointment the game was not continuing. “Our thoughts go out to all those effected by the incident and hopes for a speedy recovery” team captain of Coventry and Warwickshire Panthers, Alexey Fliatov.
